Chapter 1606 - GI Bill® Selected Reserve (Reserve & National Guard Members)
Available to Reservists or National Guard Members who are actively drilling, have a 6 year obligation in the Selected Reserve, successfully complete initial active duty for training and remain in good standing while serving.
Chapter 30 - Montgomery GI Bill® (Prior & Active Duty Service)
Available to veterans and active duty service members who enlisted in the U.S. Armed Forces, served at least two years of active duty and received an honorable discharge.
Chapter 31 - Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Services (Service-Connected Veterans)
Available to veterans who have a service-connected disability rating of greater than 10%. The VA Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors determine eligibility and authorize education benefits.
Chapter 33 - Post 9/11 GI Bill® (Service Members and Veterans)
Available to service members and veterans who served at least 90 aggregate days on active duty after 9/10/2001, or those who were discharged with a service-connected disability after 30 continuous days. All payments are based on service percentage level.

Chapter 33 - Post 9/11 GI Bill® Transfer of Entitlement "TOE" (Dependents)
Available to children and spouses of service members who were found eligible to receive Post 9/11 education benefits and transferred all or some of their unused benefits to a dependent while on active duty. All payments are based on the service percentage level.
Chapter 33 - Post 9/11 GI Bill® Gunnery Sergeant John David Fry Scholarship "FRY" (Dependents)
Available to children and spouses of those who die in the line of duty on or after 9/11/2001, to use the Post 9/11 education benefit. All payments are based on the 100% service percentage level.
Chapter 35 - Dependents’ Education Assistance Program "DEA" (Dependents)
Available to children and spouses of a service member who died during active service or is permanently and totally disabled as the result of a service-connected disability. The disability must arise out of active service in the U.S. Armed Forces.

Chapter 31 - Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Services (Service-Connected Veterans)
Available to veterans who have a service-connected disability rating of greater than 10%. The VA Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors determine eligibility and authorize education benefits.
- Assists with service-connected disabilities to prepare for, find and keep suitable jobs.
- Provides rehabilitation evaluation to determine abilities, skills and interests.
- Offers post-secondary training at a college, vocational, technical or business school.
- Pays tuition, costs, books and supplies directly to the school.
- In some cases, pays a monthly housing allowance in arrears to the student.
Chapter 33 - Post 9/11 GI Bill® (Service Members and Veterans)
Available to service members and veterans who served at least 90 aggregate days on active duty after 9/10/2001, or those who were discharged with a service-connected disability after 30 continuous days. All payments are based on service percentage level.

- Spouses have (10) years from date of eligibility to use the benefit.
- Children have (8) years beginning at the age of 18.
- Eligible for up to (45) months of benefits.

Speak to the Education Services Officer or counselor in your military branch before enrolling in school and applying for military tuition assistance. There are certain rules regarding when you are eligible to use State or Federal Tuition Assistance. If approved you will need to provide the Financial Aid Office with a copy of the tuition assistance authorization / award letter.

Policy on Veterans Benefits & Transition Act of 2018
Grand River Technical School will not impose any late penalty on students who are utilizing their Chapter 31 or Chapter 33 G.I. Bill for education payment. This includes the assessment of late fees, the denial of access to classes, libraries or any other institutional facilities, or requirement that the student/recipient borrow additional funds to cover their inability to meet his/her financial obligations to Grand River Technical School due to the delayed disbursement of payment by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
